The Tools I Use
Git
I use Git for version control, but I don’t use GitHub, GitLab or Gitea.
My repositories are maintained locally, without depending on a third-party hosting platform. I’ve never had a particular need to publish my source code to the cloud, nor do I subscribe to the notion that using Git necessarily means using GitHub.
Git is a distributed version-control system in its own right. Hosting platforms are optional conveniences built around it, not prerequisites for using it.
I prefer keeping my development environment and tooling relatively self-contained, adopting additional services only when there’s a practical reason to do so.
Site Hosting
This website runs on Werc and is hosted on a server over at
DigitalOcean running Debian with lighttpd for the
web-server and letsencrypt for the SSL certification.
No Rust nor Javascript; just plain old HTML,
CSS & Bash for automation. I do intend to
fork Werc for modern POSIX sh, bash or
zsh but that is a rabbit-hole for later.
Daily-driver
I use Arch btw on my main workstation. With Wayland running as my
display server (compositor actually), logging in via plain
tty without a display/login manager and using a wayland
fork of Suckless’ DWM, my system boots to idle consuming only 400 - 500
megabytes of RAM despite having 32GB.
I have a proxmox server as my homelab for experimentation. That way I need not pay exorbitant fees just to play around with various cloud/web-hosting tools and backends.
I run Gentoo on my web-browsing laptop & ocassionally
emerge nothing.
Product Design
I use Autodesk Inventor & Solidworks; I use the latter now. A Bambu Labs A1 3D-printer serves me well should I need prototypes or solutions to be made reality.
